I’ll admit that I hopped on the podcast bandwagon when Serial first started gaining super popularity at the end of last year, but recently I’ve been listening to more while I’m walking around or even in the background of when I’m blogging or making YouTube videos. There is something so productive about listening to people and not getting distracted by a screen that I just became obsessed with. The stories and interviews that these interlocutors produce are lessons in asking informative questions as well as detailed lessons about topics and people that you would not expect to enjoy. I really suggest trying to listen to some and would love any recommendations you may have! Here are a few of my favorite podcasts that I’m listening to right now.
Podcast: The Lively Show
My Favorite Show (So Far): Mimi Ikonn
I have been listening to The Lively Show for a few months now and I just love how many different topics Jess covers as well as her main message of living life with intention. In her interviews, she touches on everything from style to motherhood to career and always brings back a theme of positivity and living your best life. I end up taking a lot of notes during the business episodes and love the inspiring personal stories that these bloggers or small business owners tell.
Podcast: Fresh Air
My Favorite Show (So Far): Louis C.K.
This is definitely one of my favorite podcasts! It’s one of the most popular radio programs and I am so glad that I can enjoy it from the comfort and ease from my iPhone. Terry Goss interviews different cultural influencers from actors to journalists and reveals their personal stories in such a way that I feel like I know a whole new side to them. Also, her voice is super calming and she is so good at what she does.
Podcast: The Mortified Podcast
My Favorite Show (So Far): Jenny: Is My Boyfriend Gay?
This is one that I have just discovered where adults read their diary entries, letters, etc. to an audience full of strangers, revealing some of their most embarrassing moments. It is super entertaining and really interesting to see how we think as pre-teens and teenagers and how we experience different events in our lives. I burst out laughing pretty often, but it also makes me appreciate the writing people produce when they’re younger which I can relate to pretty often…
My Favorite Show (So Far): The Case Against Adnan Syed
I mean, duh! This is the most popular podcast in the history of the medium! Its meteoric popularity is still amazing to me and its chilling and controversial story was like watching an awesome, engaging movie. Of course, the last season did not have a resolution (which frustrated me so much…WHO DID IT?!), but listening to Sarah Koenig’s great storytelling was a new way for me to enjoy these types of stories. I’m excited to see what the new story will be later this year!
