In recent months, I have become obsessed with home decorating. I’ve been following new Instagram accounts that have inspired me to decorate my small apartment and, although these influencers live in larger spaces giving them more room to decorate, I have found that I am quite happy in this smaller apartment and have still been able to decorate as I please. Here are a few tips I came up with as I decorated for Christmas.
- Work with what you’ve got. It’s easy to be envious of people who may have more space/stuff/cash to decorate as much as you would like to, but being grateful for what you have can help you use the space to it’s fullest capacity. I am not the type to decorate my entire home for the holidays as it is too much work, cost and stuff than I like. I kept my decor to my living area as that is the space that we enjoy the most and where we would usually spend with company.
- Use “mobile” decor. One of my main decorations this year is a tray that sits on the coffee table. I love that it adds a huge pop of seasonal festivity to the space, but I created it as such so that the whole tray can easily be moved when the coffee table needs to actually be used. As you can see, we also have a small Christmas tree. Someday, I know that I will have a larger tree, but I am content with the tree that I have now because it can also be moved easily when we need to and it is much more mangeable to store once the season is over. Don’t forget that decorations need space to be displayed AND stored afterwards.
- Think functional for decorations. This goes with my not wanting to have too much stuff in my life. I like to use pieces that can be used in multiple seasons or throughout the year. I used a lot of glass jars and vases that can be used for flowers or seasonal vase fillers after Christmas is over. I also have some decorative pieces that act as decor, but will also hold candy at the same time.
Decorating my home for the seasons and holidays have been bringing me joy these past few months because I love that after a long day, I can relax in a space that I enjoy. It’s not the biggest or most extravagant place, but I love that it has my own personal touches and it’s my home. You can check out my pre-decor haul and Christmas home tour in my recent YouTube video.
